It’s been one crazy week.
Last Wednesday, after my tempo run, I came home for a quick dinner. An hour later, and halfway into the latest episode of Girls, I was tossing cookies. It was mysterious and gross. I won’t give out all the details, but basically I couldn’t really eat for a few days and I missed three days of my half marathon training…so this week I was anxious to get back at it.
Tomorrow I’m running a four miler – although to be fair I’m not treating it as a race, I’m using it as my pace run this week. I’m looking forward to it because races are fun.
The night before a race I like to make sure I’ve got my outfit picked out, my bag packed, my garmin charged. If it’s a 10 miler or longer, I also make sure I’ve got my gels ready to go.
A big part of race day prep for many runners is what to eat the night before a race. I’ll be honest, I started out NEVER obsessing about what I ate the night before a race. Then, I got to a point where I did worry about it. And you know what? That was stress I probably didn’t need. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to gorge on an entire chocolate cake (as much as I would like to); but I’m also not going to worry a lot about having a cookie the night before a race. Let’s face it -running 10 miles or longer is a big deal. It’s an accomplishment any time you get up and decide to put one foot in front of the other for any distance. So this year I am going to try just to listen to my body and see what I need.
In about a month I’ll be running the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler. I’m super excited because this was the first long race I ever ran … two years ago! It will be my last milestone race before my half marathon … I’m not nervous yet, but I’m sure I will be as the end of April approaches!
I’m also looking forward to spring because, let’s face it, winter has kind of stunk. To top it off, yesterday I found out that my favorite striped tee had two holes in the armpit. Gross! So on my lunch hour I treated myself to a few new spring shirts at LOFT.
J is out of town hanging out with his family, so I have the apartment to myself. I might do a little baking, maybe run a few errands. Sunday I’ll hit the trail for my 8 mile run … which amazes me. The long runs for a half marathon are so much more manageable for me than the long runs for the marathon.
What are you up to this weekend?
